We are a group of teachers, school leaders and educators with a single mission to make all schools genuinely phone-free.
Why
- Improve learning: Pupils should enjoy the school day, without access to their phone. Schools and classrooms should be distraction free. That means that children should not be able to access a smart-phone at any time (including break times) throughout the school day.
- Create safer and more joyful places: By removing unsupervised access during the school day, safeguarding risks can be significantly reduced. Without phones, children have the freedom to be children, they talk more they engage more, they are happier.
- Improve behaviour: Teachers have the right to teach, children have the right to learn. Phone free school’s have recognised significant improvement in behaviour across their school within weeks of adopting a phone-free policy.
What do we mean by a genuinely-phone free Schools?
- A school where pupils can not access their mobile device whilst on the school site
- Smartphones, smart watches, ear phones/pods/buds are either banned completely from the site or locked away in a locker or pouch
Ambition
Currently, around 11% of Schools in the UK are genuinely phone-free. We want to see more than 80% of schools adopt this approach within 3 years.
